Elevate Oral Care recently announced the release of a new gel formulation of its silver diamine fluoride (SDF) product, Advantage Arrest® 38%, now available in a multi-use syringe format. The new delivery system is designed to enhance clinical handling while maintaining the original product’s therapeutic profile.
According to the manufacturer, the Advantage Arrest GEL formulation features a more viscous consistency, which may allow for improved control during application, as well as reduced mess. The company also notes enhancements in taste and odor compared to earlier versions of SDF.
Introduced in 2014, Advantage Arrest Silver Diamine Fluoride 38% was the first SDF product to receive FDA clearance in the United States. Since then, more than 600 studies indexed in scientific literature have examined the use of SDF, with many of them evaluating the Advantage Arrest formulation, according to Elevate Oral Care.
SDF is commonly used for caries arrest in both pediatric and adult patients and has gained popularity in minimally invasive dentistry due to its ease of use, affordability, and clinical efficacy. The 38% concentration contains silver for antimicrobial action and fluoride to promote remineralization.
While the gel formulation does not change the active ingredient profile, the syringe-based packaging is intended to offer a more efficient and cost-effective option.
