3Shape presented updates to its lab software portfolio at LMT LabDay, detailing artificial intelligence-driven features and integrations designed to help laboratories increase case throughput and reduce manual processes. According to the company, the updates focus on bite alignment, automated design proposals, lab management integration, and full-arch restorative planning.
According to the company, scans from intraoral scanners can include missing or inaccurate bite data. The AI bite alignment tool in 3Shape Dental System 2025 analyzes dental arches in scans and places them in static occlusion based on anatomical norms and trained models. Even when original scans include an incorrect bite, the system delivers a bite setup in seconds. Lab professionals can preview the results and make adjustments before proceeding.
The software also applies AI to tooth outlining and margin line detection within its copy denture workflow. Rather than placing only annotation points, users can rely on automatic margin line detection based on tooth anatomy. According to the company, this reduces repetitive adjustment steps and allows professionals to finalize designs more quickly.
Dental System 2025 now includes free AI-powered bridge design proposals for cemented bridges of up to four units, with any combination of crowns and pontics. The bridge indication expands the AI design services that already include crowns, inlays, and onlays. All AI design proposals are editable, and the service is included with a 3Shape LabCare subscription, according to the company.
3Shape also updated its LMS software with enhanced native integration with Dental System and 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanners. For Dental System and LMS users, case information is synchronized between platforms, eliminating double data entry, according to the company.
For laboratories working with dentists using 3Shape TRIOS, client communications are centralized through the 3Shape Unite Cloud. According to the company, this centralization aligns teams and tasks and improves clarity and control as cases progress from scan to delivery.
A new version of 3Shape Implant Studio introduces simplified workflows for full-arch restorative planning, including All-on-4, All-on-6, multi-unit abutments, and screw-retained crowns. The integration between Implant Studio and Dental System 2025 allows restorative components to be designed directly in Dental System based on Implant Studio planning. According to the company, this supports a fully digital workflow and reduces the risk of data transfer errors.
“Our focus has always been to simplify and elevate the lab experience,” said Christian Rytter, senior product director for labs at 3Shape. “By streamlining workflows, enhancing lab management, and eliminating unnecessary steps, we’re delivering the speed, performance, and predictability labs need to grow their business.”
