Dentsply Sirona has introduced two additions to its endodontics portfolio: the Reciproc Minima file system and the X-Smart Go cordless Endo motor, both designed to support a coordinated workflow in root canal treatment.
According to the company, the Reciproc Minima file system was developed for narrow and challenging root canal anatomies and expands treatment options using a one-file approach. It builds on the Reciproc system and is designed to prepare a broader range of canal shapes without the need for scouting or glide path preparation.
Reciproc has been supported by more than 650 scientific studies, including a clinical study of 14,233 endodontically treated teeth with 5-to-10-year follow-up, in which the protocol using Reciproc achieved 30% to 40% higher tooth survival rates compared to other protocols, the company reported. Reciproc Blue, introduced in 2016, incorporated heat-treated technology to enhance flexibility and resistance to cyclic fatigue.
Reciproc Minima features the same blue heat treatment and S-shaped cross-section as Reciproc Blue, the company said. It includes a thinner wire with a maximum flute diameter of 0.77 mm and a reduced shaft of 9.5 mm to improve accessibility. The system is available in sizes R20, R25, R35, and R45, and in lengths of 21 mm, 25 mm, and 31 mm. It also includes matching paper points and ConformFit gutta-percha points.
According to the company, the file design supports efficient preparation and may reduce time compared to other methods. The system is intended to be easy to learn, with the goal of reducing potential errors compared to rotary NiTi systems. All files receive post-grinding heat treatment to increase flexibility and resistance to fatigue, supporting use in narrow canals.
Dr. Marc Habib, an endodontics specialist from Lebanon, said, “I am familiar with reciprocating files and have experienced the high efficiency of Reciproc® Minima in very narrow canals firsthand. The properties of the file really pay off."
The X-Smart Go cordless Endo motor is designed to complement the Reciproc Minima system as well as other Dentsply Sirona file systems. It operates in both continuous rotation and reciprocating motion, with torque up to 6 Ncm and a speed range of 50–2,500 rpm. The device includes an integrated apex locator for length determination during shaping.
The motor is powered by a high-capacity battery designed to support up to three days of use. Its cordless design allows movement between operatories within a practice.
Dr. Reid Pullen, DDS, FAGD, from Brea, California, said, “In my practice, endo treatments take place in different operating rooms, so the added mobility is a great asset to my team. The treatment setup is quickly available—even for the next procedure.”
Arjan de Roy, group vice president of endodontics at Dentsply Sirona, said, “Both new product solutions demonstrate how innovation and clinical benefits go hand in hand at Dentsply Sirona. The Reciproc® Minima file system enables dentists to prepare even challenging canals with confidence. They are supported in this by the X-Smart Go cordless Endo motor, which gives them plenty of freedom and mobility without compromise.”
